Mattatuck Scout Reservation
Camp Mattatuck has been a Scout camp in Plymouth, Connecticut, since 1939. In 2022 I rebranded it as Mattatuck Scout Reservation, a freelance project that came to me through my friend Noah Cross. The camp still runs on this identity today.
Round one
The A became a tent
I started in black so every idea had to hold up without color. Shields, crests, a pennant and a dozen wordmarks all went on one sheet. The version that survived was the simplest one: each A in Mattatuck drawn as a triangle, so the name pitches two tents on its own.

The system
A badge with a cabin roof
The final badge peaks like the roofline of a camp lodge, wrapped in a light grey keyline so it holds its edge on photos and on dark fabric. The primary version adds EST. 1939 above the name. The rough-edged texture in the letters keeps it from feeling corporate, which mattered for a place built around the outdoors.

The camp took it from there
Camp staff apply the identity themselves, which is the real test of a small brand. Their 2026 leader and parent guides set the white wordmark over camp photography and open sections in the brand blue and orange. On one page the tent icon grows into a background graphic, and the website carries the orange wordmark in its header.

The guides were designed by camp staff. I cropped these details to show the identity at work. See it live at campmattatuck.org.
